Dangerous Lee Interviews TaMara Campbell – Author of L.I.F.E. Live Inspired! Feel Empowered!

LIFE Front Book Cover

You got out of an unhappy marriage that came with many perks. What was the ultimate deal breaker in that relationship?

Whew! (LOL) looking back, there we’re so many deal breakers but like so many young girls, I was hopeful! Hopeful that marriage would change me, change him and change us as a couple. Marriage was supposed to just somehow magically fix everything that was wrong. In addition, being brought up in a Christian home, divorce was no, no! So there was definitely an internal struggle of going against my beliefs, society’s messages of being married to your Prince Charming and living happily ever after and then there was reality. And ultimately, I lost myself and was on the verge of destruction. But there were two major situations that resulted in my decision to finally leave: 1) I had shrunk into a former shell of myself. I had been reduced to nothing and I didn’t even realize who I was anymore. It was disgustingly heart wrenching to look in the mirror and hate what you have become. 2) I discovered he was cheating again so I asked him about it. Of course he denied it. So then of course I presented him with the evidence. He got so upset that he pushed me into the wall; I hit my head and blacked out. Let me tell you it’s a scary feeling to come to with someone standing over you yelling and cursing at you. But the one thing about all of it is that I never told him that I was going to leave until I had and plan and was absolutely sure I had enough courage and strength to make it on my own and never go back.

What inspired you to write L.I.F.E. Live Inspired! Feel Empowered!?

My story! And the stories of so many other women who believed that they are trapped and that there is no way out of an unhappy and unhealthy relationship. God did not take me on this journey to keep it to myself. I had to go and grow through it so that I could be a resource, a tool to other women so that they would know that they too, could find the strength and courage to leave. I also wrote it for that little girl growing up so that she could know how not to get into an unhealthy relationship and if by chance she did, she’d be able to utilize the tools and activities in Live Inspired Feel Empowered to find her way out. I wrote it for the person that’s lost and looking for a way to find themselves. It’s an olive branch, it’s hope, it’s inspiration for LIFE!

What will women gain from reading L.I.F.E. Live Inspired! Feel Empowered!?

Throughout the pages of Live Inspired Feel Empowered, you can expect to find yourself, your passion and your Purpose! You will laugh, cry, scream and shout praises as you turn the pages of this book. But most importantly, you will find a healing and you will find peace. You will learn to live L.I.F.E.!   When you find it difficult to read some of the pages in the book, I encourage you not to give up but to push to your breakthrough. No one ever said that growth was instant or easy because if it were, we would all be where we want to be and who we want to be. It takes time, effort and work! “Faith+Action+Movement =The life you so desire,” (the Empowered Consciousness Paradigm from Live Inspired Feel Empowered.) So be patient and loving with yourself and the process.

Can men also relate to the material within the book?

Oh Absolutely! Contrary to what we’ve been taught, men and women are not that different. We both experience all the same emotions but we just may express them differently because that’s how we’ve been conditioned by society. But are the core of it all, we are all human and we all experience hurt, pain and challenges. So all the tools and activities offered in Live Inspired Feel Empowered are definitely useful to men. In fact, a few men have already read the book and said that it actually really helped them to not only understand some things about themselves but their female partner as well. So perhaps the second edition of Live Inspired Feel Empowered will be gender neutral! J

Happy is something that we’re all reaching for. How have you become one of the happiest women in the world?

(LOL) I have become one of the happiest women in the world because I have learned to Live Inspired and Feel Empowered! I know who I am! I have fully come to love, celebrate, cherish and embrace ALL that I am, without regrets or apologies! I am living my LIFE authentically within my Purpose and Passion. Within that there is an unparallelled level of peace, love, Grace and Mercy that is so profoundly powerful!

What’s next for you?

What’s next for me?! Great question! I will be finishing up my Master of Social Work degree and Doctorate of Education in Human Sexuality in December 2013. And I’m sure somewhere inside of me there are a few books waiting to present themselves to the world! (LOL) I also am in the process of writing a producing a short documentary of Black women and sexuality as part of my Doctorate program, so that should be out soon as well! I’m trying to a movement of empowered women that are going to change this world! At the end of the day, I just want to leave a lasting legacy of empowerment, love, joy, peace and sex positive messages that will transcend time!

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 126 – No Head Wraps For Me

DANGERMASLOGODay 126: May 6, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • I went to three stores to find stretched cotton or jersey material for head wraps but had no such luck 😦 I guess I’ll just have to buy more t shirts.
  • I cut all my hair off again. I’ve decided that I like it cut very close and that’s how I plan to rock it from now on!
  • Being a parent can be emotionally draining. I’m drained today.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 122 – I Scream For Ice Cream!

DANGERMASLOGODay 122 – May 2, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • It’s official, I hate my new hair color. However, I’ll get over it! I’m not changing it. Fuck it!
  • I made a sale at my Half.com store. Horray!
  • It’s another beautiful day, so I decided to treat Senia and I to two scoops of Baskin Robbins ice cream. I actually managed to save some for later.
  • I had a long and great conversation with my good friend, Vas Littlecrow. Check her out! She’s very cool 🙂

Nothing for the Dangermas tree. I gotta change this!

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 119 – Slow & Easy

DANGERMASLOGODay 119 – April 29, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Today was the first day I went outside without a coat. I got a lil’ chilly in the freezer and refrigerator section of the grocery store.
  • TMI: My period started today!

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 115 – Pizza, Scandal & Shampoo!

DANGERMASLOGODay 115 – April 25, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Not much to report today. I worked at Wellness. I ordered pizza for dinner with banana peppers, peperoni, ground beef, mushrooms, green olives, and onions. Yummy! I had a nap and now I am watching Scandal. What a life!
  • My arms are sore from lifting two pound weights and so is my ass from riding an exercise bike with a horrible seat. Yea, I am trying to get in shape…again.
  • Product Review – For the past month or so I have been testing out the System 1 Nioxin shampoo and conditioner products for fine/thinning hair. My front edges going over to the right side of my head have always given me growth issues, which is why I love to wear my hair short or shaved, but since using these products I have noticed a slight increase in growth and thickness. I believe it is suggested that the products are used daily, but Black people cannot and should not wash their hair daily because it strips the hair of natural oils. Also, I do not have fine hair; it’s thick and coarse. Nioxin smells minty fresh and tingles your scalp so you know it’s working. If you’re a man or woman with thinning hair issues give it a try! I do wish they had a product line for people of color. Hopefully when they see this review they will take it into consideration.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 113 – Headaches & Car Breaks

DANGERMASLOGODay 113 – April 23, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Nothing much to report. My car is in the shop and I am praying that the repairs do not cost me more than $200. I’m still sick and Senia is suffering from a major headache. It’s been a helluva week already.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 106 – Ask Dangerous Lee (The Book)

DANGERMASLOGODay 106 – April 16, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Another sunny day with temporary warm temps. I ran a few errands, cleaned house and flat ironed Senia’s hair for the second time. It only takes an hour, but it’s hell on the back and arms. She looks cute, tho, so I guess that’s all that really matters.
  • I’ve decided that my second book will be a compilation of questions from my humor, advice column, Ask Dangerous Lee. This also means that I need your participation in the form of questions that will appear in the book. Submit your questions here! Thanks 😉

365 Day of Dangermas: Day 105 – I Got Nothing!

DANGERMASLOGODay 105 – April 15, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Nothing to report. It’s a Monday and I didn’t leave the house. Loved the sunshine and warm temps. Hated to hear about the tragedy in Boston. I have a feeling much worse is yet to come. This world and many of the people in it are an ugly mess.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 102 – Imitation of Life

DANGERMASLOGODay 102 – April 12, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • My very talented cousin, Keosha, cut my hair today and when it’s long enough to braid she’s going to give me a sew in weave. I have only worn weave one other time in my life and I hates it, so hopefully this time will be different. I plan to rock a big fro!
  • Dinner at Applebee’s. Some badass kids sat next to us and their mom seemed oblivious. That shit gets on my nerves.
  • Just watched Imitation of Life again. I never fail to cry no matter how hard I try not to. It’s such a sad story and I am especially affected by Sarah Jane and her mother Annie’s story; it’s a perfect fit for The Half Series. If you’ve never seen it you’re missing out. It’s one of the only old movies I can stand to watch.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 100 – Eh!

DANGERMASLOGODay 100 – April 10, 2013:

It’s a shame that it’s day 100 and I don’t have any highlights worth mentioning. It was a wet, cold day that was filled with appointments and normal everyday mom/business owner duties. I also took an early nap which means I’ll be up late, as usual. However, I am officially working on my second book, so my brain is extremely exhausted and so is my body!

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 98 – Crossing The Great Lakes

DANGERMASLOGODay 98 – April 8, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Senia and I go to the chiropractor together now. Both of our necks are a mess, but I am in much worse shape. It sounds like popcorn popping when the doctor is working on me. I love it!
  • I decided to make today special by taking a trip to Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills. Not only did we hang out, but we did some shopping and had dinner at Johnny Rockets.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 94 – Nurses Rule At DangerousLee.Biz!

DANGERMASLOGODay 94 – April 4, 2013:

Highlights of The Day

  • Today was a day full of work, so there’s really no highlights worth mentioning except the fact that the article 5 Reasons Marrying A Nurse Is Like Winning The Lottery has received close to 150,000 views today and the love hate conversation on nurses continues. I’m amazed! Who knew an article about nurses would cause such a stir!
  • I got a B- in my Bio Chemistry Neuro Psychology class. Yay me! I’m glad to be done with that!
  • I had several epiphanies last night before bed and I am very excited about my next book project. I can’t wait to share the details with you when it’s ready to rock!
  • Earth Day is April 22 and Senia has created  – Senia’s Earth Day Challenge. Please participate by submitting images of green living or images/drawings of your favorite places on earth.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 91 – I’m So Tired!

DANGERMASLOGODay 91 – April 1, 2013:

Highlights of the Day:

  • First day of Spring Break for Senia, and I kept her busy by taking her to an orientation at my chiropractor (who knew they had orientations?). The orientation was helpful, because it helps you to understand why chiropractic is needed and how it works. Of course the orientation was also about getting more clients. Senia will go with me later this week to have free xrays and a consultation. You’re never too young to get your nervous system in order. Apparently one of the doctors adjusted his child one hour after they were born!
  • We also went to the mall and got things we wanted instead of things we needed. That’s always fun!
  • The best news of the day is that SimplySenia.com is back up and running after being deactivated because of an error that was made by WordPress bots. If you have children, you’ll love the content over there. Check it out!
  • Like the header says, I’m tired! Goodnite!

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 81

DANGERMASLOGODay 81 – March 22, 2013:

It was a good Friday. I slept in most of the day, until 3pm, actually!  It was also another day of spending quality time with my mom and daughter eating homemade tacos and seeing an aunt and younger cousin who I rarely see. It’s a shame that my family doesn’t get together more often unless it’s a holiday, but I’ve become very comfortable being alone with my work and being the sole person  in my own crazy world. I guess I am more selfish than I realized. Oh well, it was good seeing you Aunt Iris and Kalleon! Everyone have some Dangerous fun this weekend 🙂

Day 77 – March 18,2013:

Nothing for the Dangermas tree, but today  was full of activity and realization. I am officially in pre-production as a host of a TV show that will be all about SEX! I am also officially on a get fit regime because I want to look my best on film. There’s also something very personal and family related that I want to share with you, but I won’t, until I have confirmed some information I found through research. I cried today, because I was happy.

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 73

DANGERMASLOGODay 72 – March 14, 2013:

Thursday’s are always busy and today was no different. Senia and I both needed naps at the end of the day. However, thanks to a doctor’s appointment this morning, Senia and I were able to indulge in McDonald’s breakfast before I sent her off to school. Quality mother/daughter time is very important to us. On another note, it seems that this website, and not my others (SimplySenia.com and PantiesUpSkirtDown.com) is having lots of technical issues lately that are out of my control and make absolutely no sense. I am starting to feel sabotaged in some way. Am I paranoid? Time will tell…

365 Days of Dangermas: Day 71

DANGERMASLOGODay 71 – March 12, 2013:

So, I found out that my book, Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down, was no longer available at the Flint Public Library and I just had to know why. Turns out the book was borrowed from the library and never returned. That’s kinda cool, but it also sucks because others don’t have the opportunity to read it. Tomorrow I will be taking three copies of the book to the library to replace the one stolen copy. Silly me, I should of known one copy wasn’t enough. A copy of my book goes in the Dangermas tree today 🙂

So, Senia did some Spring cleaning over the weekend and she got rid of toys, clothes, and a Minnie Mouse watch that doesn’t keep time. Apparently, Senia does not have time for that! I think it can be fixed, but until then the Dangermas tree will hold on to it!

I got the pilot for the TV show as the host and we will be shooting soon. I will keep you updated as the project goes along. I’m excited, nervous, and scared, but hopeful. I tested a young man for HIV today and he’s positive. It always makes me sad to tell someone that they’re HIV positive, but I am glad that he was tested and knows his status so that he can live a healthy life. A condom goes in the Dangermas tree today just for him.
